Bea’s Favorites
While we are all together we wanted to give you an opportunity to do some of Bea’s favorite things! These are only some of the wide variety of shenanigans she got up to in Asheville, but you’ll easily be able to see why she loved them so much when you give them a try. See you there!

Hiking & Swimming!
RATTLESNAKE LODGE
Milepost 375 on the Blue Ridge Parkway. 1.5 mile gradual hike along a creek to the ruins of a lodge built in the early 1900’s. - Driving directions from Asheville: From I-240, take Exit 4A for US Highway 19/23 north toward Weaverville. Go six miles and take Exit 21 for New Stock Rd. At the end of the ramp, turn right and a quick left and drive past Ingles grocery store. Go 8/10 mile. At stoplight, turn right onto Reems Creek Road. Go four miles and turn right onto Ox Creek Road. Go about 3.5 miles to a small parking area on the left (for 3-4 cars). From the parking area, follow the trail for a short distance where it intersects with the Mountains to Sea Trail (white blaze). Turn left on the trail and head up the switchbacks. 1.4 mile to the lodge site. (When you return to your car, you can continue one mile on Ox Creek Road to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Just before you reach the Blue Ridge Parkway, Elk Mountain Scenic Road is on the right. This is a nice drive back to Asheville.)
Craggy Gardens
The closest high mountain ecosystem to Sparklebark. This is an amazing spot with panoramic views of the mountains. It’s always colder up here and weather can change on a dime. This was the last hike Bea did when we visited the farm in September. You can either go to the pinnacle or to Craggy Gardens - they are both short hikes with beautiful views!
LAUREL RIVER
Grab your swimsuit and a picnic! From Sparklebark, Take I-26 W/US-19 N/US-23 N/US-70 W. Exit 19A and merge onto US-25 N/US-70 W toward Marshall. Stay on this road for 21.3 miles until the just before the intersection with Hwy 208. The parking lot is gravel and will be on the left.
